Who We Are?
OJAS, the Sanskrit word for energy, perfectly captures the tough Indian competitive spirit which all the members on our team aim to bring to this competition. The members of Team Ojas always aim for innovation with a simplistic design. Our work revolves around our team motto. Fueled by Innovation, Driven by Determination. Inspite of the meagre number of selected teams from India, Team Ojas, representing VIT University, was the Only Team with a hybrid car in Formula Student UK 2012. We were also the First Team from India to qualify for the prestigious competition. Gaining some experience from the Hybrid Car, we wanted to aim for something which is more sustainable in terms of the environment. For this very reason we shunned the engine, and determined ourselves into making a fully Electric Car. Out of 500 teams which registered for the competition our car got selected in the top 120 teams to compete at FS UK 2013. The design and the suspension system of the car was well appreciated by the judges, for the strength, safety, and simplicity. At the event we were placed 51st in the Business Presentation, 54th in Cost Analysis and 76th overall. We aim to make our this year’s car more innovative, lighter and better.

The fastest growing professional engineering institution in the UK. Formula Student is Europe’s most established and most revered educational motorsport competition. The event is run by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers with the sole aim to inspire, develop and nurture the new innovative and enterprising engineers of the world. Universities from all across the globe participate in this competition to take on the challenge of building a single- seat, open cockpit racing car that can successfully compete in a set of dynamic and static events. The competition seeks to challenge the university students to conceive, design, build, cost, present, and compete as a team; in the process helping them improve their capabilities, push their limits and to broaden their horizons, ensuring a smooth transition from collegiate life to the much more real outer world. The cars are judged across a series of static and dynamic events wherein a maximum of 1000 points – 325 for static and 675 for dynamic – can be scored. The static events include the Business presentation (75), Cost analysis (100) and the engineering design analysis (150); The dynamic events include skid pad (50), acceleration (75), efficiency (100), autocross (150) and endurance (300).
What is mechanical engineering? Mechanical engineering is all about taking science and using it to produce things. It’s about translating theoretical research into practical solutions and applications which are used by society. Mechanical engineers’ discoveries, creations and developments of technology laid the foundations for modern life as we know it.
The development of mechanical engineering follows that of society and our built environment. Inventions such as the bicycle revolutionised travel and allowed people to move about freely as never before, impacting on how they lived and worked.
